How to clear fault codes.

I haven't seen any posts about clearing fault codes by this method but i was told about it,tried it and it works.(on '95 2.5td)

Turn ignition on and off 25 times!

Sounds mad but i've done it a few times now and it always works.. except when i tried turning on/off too quick,you need to take your time.

Remaining faults do of course re-appear after running.

Just wondered if anyone can see any reason why not to do this (apart from those who charge to clear them!)

technically, its supposed to be a number of 'clean starts', ie car fires up and runs. So such a thing would kill the battery.

The tractors use some typically crap BMW firmware, anything goes on that ECU ;D

I might give that a go once I've replaced my MAF as my sealey reader won't even connect to mine!

I thought when the car is started and running,thats when faults are detected, so how could they be cleared this way?
Also, i don't understand how it could 'kill the battery' providing the car starts first turn.

ive heard this before, as far back as the first of the eco cavaliers. a reader and eraser costs about £49 on ebay. i got one reads/ gives more info / and turns off light after fixing. well worth the money

Yours is OBDII compliant - and industry standard, so cheap generic readers available.  Older Omegas need dedicated readers which are expensive

Hello lee,i have just bought a code reader,if you want me to bring it down and try that one.It fits any petrol from 96 upwards,and diesal 04 onwards.
