Coolant Loss
« on: 15 August 2009, 23:48:26 »

The Coolant Level warning came up on our MID last night, so filled up to the level indicated & went of on a 60 mile trip this morning. Upon arrival the warning came up again, so refilled before setting off for home. Got home, same message. Left to cool again, filled & ran engine untill the electric fan kicked in but couldn't see any obvious leaks. There is no "Mayo" around the oil filler cap & no distinctive exhaust smell in the coolant resevoir.
Any ideas ?

The first place to check would be the HBV (heater bypass valve) which on a V6 is right at the back of the engine under the wipers.
Think if you look in the Maintence Section there will be a few pictures. :y

I think I may have found where our coolant is disappearing to.
Checked the oil level tonibht prior to a planned trip to Scotland this weekend & the level seems very high on the dipstick with a clean clear lower section.
How can I get this checked out & how is the coolant getting to the sump, there is still not any "Mayo" on the oil cap & no oil floating in the coolant resevoir.
