It will be crap though, and probably not work properly.

They don't work properly with the protocol stack we are encumbered with but that's hardly the phone's fault  >:(

Erm, I think you're wrong there. The Ericsson phone bit will work perfectly, it's just the Sony music player and camera that will break. I guess that Sony is like the Alfa Romeo of the consumer electronics world?

In fairness, I've had a Sony Ericsson W810i for about 18 months and it is the best phone I've had. Never had a day's trouble with it and it does everything I want it to. When someone wants to talk to me it rings and when I want to talk to someone I call them, that's all I want it to do.  :y

Not sure Ericsson have any input into it.

And lets face it, Sony entirely lost the plot around 7 or 8 yrs ago...

Yes, I do.

I used to be pro Sony. Wouldn't consider other brands (excluding phones - theirs always were crap).  Virtually every appliance in the house was Sony. Blinkered, like certain other members here ;).

Then about 7 or 8 yrs ago, I started noticing that all the new kit I was buying was pretty poor. But being pro Sony, I remained loyal. Until I made the mistake of spending £1500 on their top of range 28" TV. That was the final straw.  Useless set. Sony UK said it couldn't be fixed, yet Sony in the rest of the world said it could. Turns out, Sony UK didn't want to implement the fixes due to cost.

Now, not being blinkered, I can see how poor (or purposely restricted) Sony products are.

Fortunately, now, Sammy Sledgehammer has educated virtually all the Sony gear in the house.

The phone section is 100% Ericsson (who are teh largest mobile chipset manufacturer on the globe)....in fact the electronics are 100% ericsson, the media software is Sony.

Sony Ericsson phones have excellent build quality, GUI is rather good to.

Almost as good as Nokia  ;)

Nokia's build has dipped latley but back on track now with the very latest phones.

Nokia 6300 is an example of Nokia back to form, avoid Motorola phones, just plain awful! Their GUI has not  been updated since the £1 note was in circulation.

N95 is a cracking phone, N95 8Gb is a nice update, and buid quality is up too.

We have some iPhones at work, fantanstic consumer device, but has some serious flaws:

Does not support wap pushes
no mms support, so no picture messaging
camera is appauling
no 3g capabilties.

The screen is cracking though! really amazing stuff.
