very slight play in a wheel bearing is acceptable, even on mot, bearings generally make a low droning sound that alters or even disappears depending on what corner your going round. drumming sound at take off or low speed, prop shaft?, does the noise come from the back seats area? and is it a dull thud thud thud sound? get under it and try to push the prop shaft up and down.
