FAULT CODES?
« on: 07 September 2009, 21:45:09 »

Am i right in thinking that every time i pull an electrical connector of something on the engine eg (icv egr) this will show up as a fault code when i do the paperclip test if so how do i go about clearing the codes?

believe so, but i think it depends on the code as to when it clears. some go after a number of clear starts, some have to be cleared with a reader. unsure if leaving the battery lead off for half an hour has any effect on the omega, but it works on her Polo with some codes, but not abs  :-/

Yep, I have heard they can clear after 20/30 clean starts, but I don't know which cars it works on.

As for disconnecting the battery, this has worked for me in the past on the vectra and an astra.

Having said that, some codes will not clear without a reader/resetter. Certainly airbag codes fall into this category and I believe some engine codes.

The easiest way to deal with it is to disconnect the battery whilst working in the engine bay, then no codes can be recorded. Although unless you turn the ignition on with parts disconnected, they shouldn't be recorded anyway.
