Warning lights

While driving home today the traction control and abs warning lights both came on at same time. Cruise wouldnt work and speedo packed in. Now, sometimes it comes on with ignition, sometimes it comes on along the way and sometimes it stays off all together. Any ideas peeps?  :-?

Sounds like ABS/TC ECU failure. Might be worth getting it on a code reader to make sure (ECU won't communicate with it if failed).

ABS ECU ....  Lots of threads about it .... 3 options

1. New  (ouch)

2. Repair ( about £130 - £150)

3. Second hand ( must come from same model/engine or it'll need a tech2 session to program)

I have had a repair done by BBA-Reman and was very pleased, there are several threads around.

It is extremely "fiddly" to change but not especially technical

Ah, it says first try cleaning sensors. Thinking about it, it first started when the main road to work was closed and all traffic had to use a crappy country lane....

If you can get a diagnostic computer on it it might help. Sometimes they tell you what is at fault.

I have seen this before on other VX's and it's always been the wheel sensor. To confirm which corner...
Jack one corner up (out of gear) stick a multimeter (continuity) across the two pins on the back of the hub and then spin the wheel. You should get a pulse, on, off, on, off.

The corner where you are getting nothing is your problem.

On the Omega the ABS ECU failure is the more common IMHO. If it's a wheel sensor the speedo usually still works because it can deduce speed from the other wheels. As said, though, get the codes read to confirm.

Had this exact problem, was indeed the ABS ecu, had repaired by BBA reman £138, local garage charged £92 (2hrs labour) for removing and then refitting.

 >:(VXL dealer wanted £750 to supply and fit new!!!!

ABS ECU kaput mate - awkward but doable job due to lack of space.  Patience needed ;) ;)  Replaced the Estate one with a second hand one from same year/model from one of the OOF breakers - worked ok and no need for Tech :y :y
