Repeat : which gears and when.
As said, there is one band but at present it sounds like a solenoid.

Hi Richard

Just at low speeds ..around town only now and again i would say 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd. Is there a way of checking the Solenoid or is just just replaced.

Thanks
Steve.

There is an actuator check on Tech 2 IIRC. Not sure if this is just to check that volts are getting to the solenoids with a multimeter or if you can verify that they are working. Will have to read up on the procedure.

Cool, it would be good to check without taking it all apart

Solenoid should read 17.5 to 18.5 ohms (re:Sassanach) the secondhand one from 'unlucky alf', many thanks again, was 18.00.
It was dead easy to change with the filter out, the one that came out read 20.00 ohms.
With lots of town driving the 2-3 solenoid gets all the wear.

Can you keep us posted if solenoid change has resolved problem. I obviously missed out on this - just changed oil and filter. Any idea how much a VX solenoid is for the autobox?

There are five solenoids in the autobox, I am told the one that controls the 2-3 shift is £60 plus.

Hi, My 1995 elite 2.5 diesel autobox 180.000miles Trans ECU GM96018114 Alpha BN.  Is also playing up sometimes , over-revving going up between 1-2 or 2-3 (as already described).  No flashing gear light, but I have transmission error code 41 on my Polish software tech2. Autotdata book on codes lists omega trans code 41 as possibly:- Gear selection- incorrect, Low fluid level, shift solenoid 1,2,3 TCM. (No TC on diesel omega)
I changed oil 2-3 years ago, but not the fliter (96015432 which is £71-88 inc.).  I have the idea, it a solenoid. On some journey I don't have any problems.  And others it gets in such a state, that it trys to put away in 3rd and the sport mode light won't come on.  Can be corrected normally by stopping ignition off & on then restart.
Any help please.

Filter can be cleaned, no need to change if in good nick, if your moving when it happens you are in 2rd (1st gets you rolling) so I would suggest it's 2-3, please check this is so, if yes it's the same as the problem I had at 159k - fault was: 'Gear selection-incorrect', emptied both auto sumps, replaced the 2 to 3 solenoid, cleaned filter, refitted then 6 litres of Dexron 3, problem sorted.  :y

Thanks Richard
How did you get the second-hand solenoid and are they all different, which would be 2-3 solenoid?
When I did the oil change it was only main sump and I topped up oil to filler plug hole this was only 3 litres?

I think I have a similar problem, I have a Opel omega 2.2 auto -00

It "slips out of gear" when its about switch gear or is close to a gearchange. so i have to avoid staying close to these "switching zones" or i will have to manually put it in 3:rd to make it find the gears again which sometimes bumps so the gearbox jumps in to "safemode" (staying in highest gear at all times). giving a little extra gas at these zones seems to help slightly
Also accelerating hard until it should force a gearchange (high rpm) may cause it to loose gear, or may not change gear at all even if stay at high rpm

This can happen 10times in a halfhour drive, or once in a day.. but never 2 days in a row without a slip. It can happen in all gear switches, not restricted to any particular gear.

Oil, and filter has been changed, oillevel has been checked several times. I get 2 errorcodes, one listed as unknown and the other as "torque error" (use your imagination, i translated from swedish and im not sure if torque is the correct word  :-/ )

So, is there any help for my beloved car? or do i have to get a new gearbox? and if so, is it the same box as in the 2,5 V6 ECO TEC? Because if found one of those "cheap" with extremly low milage.

Greatful for all/any help and please keep the language simple if you can since im swedish and not great with cars (except painting them  ;D )

Old one looked ok but when i chack the pins of which there are two one was bent back, which i guss could give a bad conenction.

Knock on wood  ;D ;D all is ok . will keep an eye on things and update if any thing changes.
