My Car Will Not Start DESPARATELY NEED HELP
« on: 06 September 2009, 12:02:10 »

Hi All,
Got in the car this morning and it wouldn't start. It was turning over perfectly but would not fire, not even a splutter. I need the car to be working for tomorrow and have not got a clue what is wrong.
Seemed a bit funny yesterday, had to have a couple of attempts at starting a couple of times.
Is ther a safety fuel cut off switch anywhere, or could it be a relay problem preventing power getting to the ignition?
Would really appreciate any help that I can get.
Thanks, Kieren

Hi, Should have said, I did the paperclip test first thing and the results were 12 and 31 so it didn't really help much.

Still could be crank sensor, they sometimes go without showing a code. Give as much of the crank sensor wiring you can get to a shake and check the plug (near the pass. side at the rear of the plenum and just under the skuttle) is located tightly and no water in it :y

Wasn't surewhich was the crank senser, but I pulled about some wiring under the skuttle. There was one connector that has fallen apart a little bit. Looks like a three pole connector and one end has what looks liike a vacuum hose. But nothing has changed, not sure if I was looking in the right place. :(

Bloke has just been around from the breakdown cover I have. He took off the fuel lines from the engine and got me to turn the engine over, then said that it was the fuel pump. Just then a noise started coming from the engine bay next to where the battery is. He said it was the cooling system, I said it sounds like a faulty relay. We had a look through the manual and couldn't work out which relays were which. Then I said could the problem be that the crank senser is what tells the pump to start pumping........
He says, to be honest mate, I'm not really a mechanic so I couldn't tell you.
That's where we got to >:(
Any ideas? If it is a relay that controlls the fuel pump does anyone know which one it might be?

Hi try this one it might be either no. 10 or 20

Hope it helps a bit. take the relays out and check there is no corrosion on the contacts.
also check the fuse it might be knackered.

Thanks mate but I've just been out and had it all in bits. I can hear the fuel system running when I closed the fuel pump relay circuit and I swaped the two relays between the pump circuit and the injection circuit.
Taken the skuttle out and had a poke around behind but still no joy. Doing my head in now.
Which leads me to--- Does the immobiliser cut out the ignition completely or does the starter still work?

Has anybody at all got any other ideas? (That do not involve Torx sockets)
Running out of time and really nood to get running by the time I go to bed.
Thanks for all the help so far. :y :'( :o :-[ [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Crank sensor is always the suspect when they wont go,Unfortunately the only way I know of finding out is to swap with a known good one,not sure if any members near you who might be able to assist. :-/

Thanks, that is the plug that I was playing with, it had fallen apart to a degree and I have put it back together. Is there an easy way of making sure that it is dry?
