2.5 td injector leak ?
« on: 12 September 2009, 15:40:39 »

Hi I have bought my Dad the 2.5 td (6 cylinder) for towing with and all was going well till a couple of weeks ago when one of the injector fuel return pipes come off and leaked everywhere.
Now I have replaced all of the braded rubber hose pipes and when checking for leaks noticed that there is a leak on one of the injectors (forth one back). This injector appears to be the only one that I can see has a wire connected to it.
When the engine is running the diesel appears to be seeping in, around and through the the wired connection.

Any help is appriceated as I have no idea if this is a common fault, somthing that can be repaired or if the injector is finished.

Thanks.

umm bad news dept here :-[
it needs replacing but will probably soldier on as is for thousands of miles yet if you can live with the leak, reconditioning is a possibility if you can be without the car for however long it takes, it will require a special pietzo lead socket to remove it tho!!
hope that helps !!

I think it's a 27mm, thin walled, window socket. Sealey do one.(I'll post the link up if I can find it). You'll probably need to grind the chrome off the outer edge about 4-5mm wide, just around the lip as it is still too tight to slip into the injector recess.
Worth giving the injector base a dose of Silkopen or PlusGas a couple of hours before to help free it up. They are often seriously tight and a couple on here have had injector sockets break.
A good quality socket, a dose of releasing fluid and a warm engine and it should come off ok.  :y

I am after a window socket, but in your case, you may not need one. Apparently there is only one injector with a wire, so you may get away with a normal deep 27mm socket.

Yep, No.4 injector incorporates the 'start of injection' sensor.
Mine was totally naffed - replacement was a cool 250 quid-ish!
