Fault code help following pedal trick test
« on: 14 September 2009, 13:03:44 »

I did a pedal trick test today just to see what fault codes were lingering in the system. The car has been starting OK for a while now (touch wood) so I'm just curious to see if there is anything that needs resolving.

Here are the codes

10  6  5  10
10  4  3  10
10  4  2  10

I understand that the number 10 is interpreted as a 0?

Anyway would be grateful to learn what all this is.

Thanks

0430 0420 Are "normal" for these engines it seems. And relate to pre cat below efficiency. Nothing too much to worry about as emissions will be fine afaik. Will have the light on the dash which is annoying. Just checking the other one.

;D ;D 0650 is mil light related. Which i guess means you wont have a light on the dash as someone has taken the bulb out.;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Does that mean that someones has taken the bulb out that relates to the 0430 and 0420 fault codes, so that the eml light isn't on continously?

I thought it was one bulb behind the eml?  :-?

Just to add the management light was on continously earlier this year when I had a problem and always comes on at ignition stage for a short period.

depends which lights we are talking about, your car spanner light obviously works as we have the pedal trick codes.
0650 means Malfunction Indicator light (mil) controle circuit malfunction. Which is refered to as the emissions light with the engine symbol afaik.

If it comes on at start up then obviously the bulb is fine. Some people remove the bulb esp with the cat code issue if its constantly on. Very annoying.

Either way, nothing unusual or out of the ordinary to worry about imho.

But see what others say. :-)

Thank you for that. I was worried that my alternator was on the way out. Fortunately no codes came up for that.

0420 / 0430 are the cat inefficiency codes that plague the 3.2 ... and put on the emissions light .. sounds like someone has removed the bulb for the emissions light !!

I've had the 0420/0430 3 times now in 18 months ... each time either in France or just after getting back, so I think it is linked to fuel quality, but have no proof.

The maxscan puts the light out and has paid for itself :)  VX want £70 round here just for a tech2, the maxscan cost £75 .. so IMHO anyone with a 3.2 it's worth getting one, also does a few more things as well ..  :)

yep good tool, the freeze frame and live data good for finding when problems happen, like on mine 420, 430 seem to happen at about 1520rpm, coolant 85ish'c and 50ish mph at slight (7-10)percent throttle. so im in 5th and pootling along to work when it happens. drive it like you stole it and it doesnt happen. odd
