noisy exhaust
« on: 21 September 2009, 21:00:08 »

dont know what the hell is making all the noise under the car but it sounds like its blowing, had it up on a ramp at kwik fit and checked it from one end to the other, but no leaks, when checking under the car it sounds like there is a major hole in the mid box but there aint no holes or leaks, only had the car 1 week and it looks like the midbox has been changed recently, asked previous owner and they dont know as they havent had it for very long, can anyone shed any light on the problem as the car sounds like a tank

Is it blowing noise or a rattling noise? Both my mid-boxes rattle (long story involving failed cam-cover gaskets, blown DIS, misfire and wrecked CATS….) when off throttle. I’m thinking about just getting a couple of straight-thru pipes from CATS to backbox to replace. Hopefully will be cheap fix. Have no idea how loud it will be or whether it will drone on a motorway journey. Will give it a go if I can find someone to do it cheaply though.

Sound like the baffles are knackered. Got the same problem on mine although only when de-accelerating at certain rev range - makes a hell of a din. Cars in garage today to sort it out but will probably mean new mid section exhausts.
