« on: 01 October 2009, 12:00:48 »

Is it possible to convert a normal air con omega to a climate version and as a side note can the Xenon lights be fittled as a replacement of the normal lights ,do they use the same wires or differant ones and if not are they in the loom somewhere ?

Anything is possible they say, but I think I'd draw the line at trying that conversion!  ;)  ;)  ;) There's a lot going on behind the scenes ....... buy another car with CC  :y

HID's use different wiring, you can swap them over, many on the forum have done so, I saw Marky Mark fit them to a car ...... no, the wiring is not already there, you'd need to alter what you've got to the HID's.  :y :y

I've looked at both of these and done one of them.

I had a perfectly good CC system in a CDX I scrapped, but looking at transplanting it into my CD I am sure would have been a dash off job. Having had CC and A/C I can honestly say that I prefer the A/C. Not just in Vx but in many cars CC seems to have a mind of its own - in the Vx system you also only get 1 degree resolution.

You can fit xenons by using the "manual" levellers from your old headlights. Adding the auto levellers with sensors and ECU isn't a job for the faint hearted, lots of wiring to do. You should really also add headlight washers - not difficult. They key thing though is to ensure that you get a short length of cable with the xenons as there is an additional one not on standard headlights. These can be paralleled in, but really need to be spliced carefully as xenons carry very large inrush currents (I measured 18 amps) on startup and then gradually settle down to about 3.5 amps after a few mins. NOT a job for Scotchbloks or screw terminals, you will also need a good sized soldering iron and the heat will conduct away up the thick cable.

I think the Euro regulation that permits the use of HID lamps requires headlight washers and either self levelling suspension or self levelling headlights.

I don't know what the MOT testers manual requires.

Alignment is only thing covered in current MOT (other than they work!).

However, DfT clearly and publically state that HIDs must use a HID approved lens (which rules out all aftermarket crap), levelling system, and washing system. Not doing it properly may pass an MOT, but as the MOT says, that does not mean the car is road legal.
