Auto shift not releasing after break test.
« on: 06 October 2009, 21:11:09 »

Hi everyone.

Just bought an absolute stunning 2.5i V6 CDX on an S plate, full service history, really well looked after and its gorgeous. 82000 on the clock.

Got a prob though........... I turn on the engine and i'm asked for a break test but sometimes after pressing the break i can't move the auto stick from park to drive, eventually it will lift and move. Can anyone help me?
Thought this would be the best place to ask.

Thanks to all for taking a look.

Jason.

Possible dodgy switch behind brake pedal

Just to ensure you are using correctly, it will only move from park with brakes on...

Yes. But as TB says are you keeping the pedal depressed when trying to select a gear :question

Yes, you do hear it..

Solenoid is just under leather under gearstick. Leather gaiter pulls up starting handbrake end...

The click on mine is very quiet, I would have to listen hard to hear it, although as I rest my hand on the selector I can "feel" the solenoid act.

It sounds like either a dodgy solenoid or switch ... if it packs up completly there is a manual release

New brake light switch required!

.... but don't break your brake switch when you fit it!  :y  :y

Try it whilst pushing the gear selector catch down.

There is s small micro switch the senses when Park is selected which works off the gear shifter.....

Just above the brake pedal, you've to remove the cardboard cover to get to it.
It was a while back whne I changed mine - it's embarrassing at the lights when you can't engaged D isn't it  ::) - but it was straight forward. The hard bit is actually getting yourself into the footwell to do the job.  ;D  ;D

£30-ish IIRC
A new switch has a plunger that needs pulling out to meet the pedal so that the brake light works AND your cruise (if fitted) ........ like I say it was a long time ago since I did mine.
Have you looked in the maintencance section? I think there's something in there about it.  :-/  :y

mine's a 3.0 Around town it does around 20/21 I have seen very low 30's on a nice long easy run at c75/80 mph. However long runs for me, usually means I'm towing, in which case it's anything from 20 down to my ultimate of ......  :-? :-?
