Exhaust, again
« on: 04 October 2009, 20:40:02 »

I know this has been asked before and I've searched for answers, but didn't really get a clear idea of what to buy, I would have gone for a genuine exhaust but I've read they are not the same as the one fitted from new, I don't want anything custom made or stainless, I've seen a Bosal system from cats back for under £180 with all the bolts rubbers and clamps, I need it this week so I cant get ones from abroad that are on ebay, so out of all the ones I can get in the UK for under £200 would Bosal be a good buy? I want to keep it as quiet as possible.
Oh and are the mountings the same as the 2.5? I know the tail pipe will be short, but will a 2.5 exhaust fit a 2.6? I've seen a 2.6 exhaust on a the site http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk, I used one from there before on my Dads 3.0 Elite and I found it a bit loud, but it wasn't fitted very well, has anyone else used an exhaust from that site?
TIA

try eternal car via google, or in the search on here. I have a genuine vx exhaust on my 3.2 and they are no longer the same spec. as the original factory fit.
Far poorer spec for the same money. Would def not fit bosal, they block with the silencer wading far too easily.

Eternal car do the omega range and vary from 90 to 130 afaik, for a cat back system depending on you engine. The fit is said to be ok ish but for the money..... :-)

Ps delivery is quite quick from what i've heard.

Well I’ve ordered the exhaust from eternal car, I did read a few people saying they are ok, they only listed the 2.5 but I'm guessing that will fit my 2.6, even if I have to buy a chrome tail pipe cover, its a pity you can't still buy the proper ones from VX though, I liked my car quiet

Eternalcar's system is excellent - I had it fitted to my 3.0 within half an hour, using jack and stands. Good quality, and no fitting issues :y

Well it took me 6 hours to get the old exhaust off, the bolts in the cats broke off and I ended up drilling them out, I will fit the exhaust tomorrow if the weather is ok, and I was impressed at how fast I got the parts, less than a week, one thing I did notice was a metal plate bolted across the pipes not far from the cats, does that serve any real purpose?

Is it bolted to the back of the gearbox? It prevents the cats being stressed as the engine and gearbox vibrate and move about.

No, its just a plate with some U bolts holding it on between the boxes and the joint to the cats, looks like its just to keep the pipes from bouncing around or something, I even had to cut the old U bolts off that as the nuts were rusted on so badly
