2.5 td oil leak
Hi all!
i have a 2.5 td w reg.i am very pleased but it is developed an oil leak and now the oil is all over the engine but its mostly at the front at the battery side.i have no idea where its came from anyone can help?i hope i can fix it and its not a major problem.othervise the car work fine just need to top up the oil time by time.cheers

would think the dip stick rubber may have gone think its on that side, other than that could be the head seal. some one on here will put you right.

i did check the dipstick but it seems ok.i have at a local garage they said it can bee the crankshaft oil seal but they dont seems too sure for me........

well there is only one way to find out what it could, jet wash the engine bay clean out all the oil, let it dry and take for a spin and then have look for the signs of where it could be then let us know ok m8

have you checked the bottom of the dipstick tube for the gromit or the oil filter O ring

I did not,but i will.and about the jetwash i heard it is a hydraulic engine and because the oil leak where the oil came out the water can get in.and thats fatal for those engines.so what you think it is safe to jetwash or not?

It could well be one of the following, which are quite common on the 2.5TDs:
* The vent tube (if fitted) at the base of the EGR valve has become detached
* The tube which connects the EGR valve to the boost sensor (on nearside inner wing) has detached
* The hose which connects the charge-air housing (embossed 'turbo diesel') to the inlet manifold has split/hardened or it's jubilee clips need tightening

Whatever, you'll need to give the area a really good clean first with 'Gunk' or similar, and then determine.

sethsmate beat me to it. iv,e the same problem. i was told in the past that the oil is a turbo leak and it blows out somewhere along the plastic ( in my case its the short hose to the egr) what i dont know is the cure.

Check under the black plastic panel at the front, the bit that says "Turbo diesel" There is a short hose with two clips, check that it's not leaking oil from there. Mine was leaking and spraying oil all over that side of the engine. I think it's called a boost pipe.

It is sunday so i will clean it and check tomorrow and let you know guys.last question it can infect the engine anyway?because its seems to work perfectly for now but what about later...? :question

The root-cause is oil mist from the turbo, which accumulates in the 'Turbo Diesel' housing/EGR valve area. The viscous fan then blows any leaking oil around the N/S/F of the engine bay area.
Mine's now spotless, (several Newent attendees seemed amazed!). 'Cured' by removing and cleaning this housing/valve area at each 2500 mile oil/filter-change.
I've also changed the connecting hose to the inlet manifold, as the original had gone hard. Listed by Vx as 'Connector' with part no. 90467872 at £12.15 plus VAT.

Any oil leak is really undesirable.
Check that there's no deterioration of the top radiator hose.

This was the problem with mine, solved with two new hose clips.
Tried to explain, but your explanation is better than  mine.
Hope it's just as explained above, just a cheap and easy fix.

Another possibility is that the securing cap (with the large hex key fitting) is still in place on the belt tensioner.
My mates garage had a Landrover in last week, with the straight six 2.5td, oil leaking over front N/S.

Used the securing cap off my spare engine and it ws sorted.

I hae had the same problem on mine for ages, I hae searched time and time again to try to locate it, as of yet, I haven't...

I tend to find the oil pools by number 1 injector as well...

If you work out what it is, please let me know...
