Reported on the forum a good few months ago that the emmisions light to my 2.6 V6 CD mig decided to light up. The codes being flashed up were 0170 and 0173 Fuel Trim Malfunctions both banks.
Decided to take the risk and drive the car which i have been quite happily for the past 3 months, no other problems other than minor stuttering of the engine in the morning and quite resonable fuel economy for a V6, so really thought nothing of the warning light.
Had a local mechanic look at the car and he could find nothing wrong with the engine, no airleaks, fuel leaks etc.
I posted this problem on this forum and certain replies came back, one of wich was a dodgy MAF, even though the local mechanic said it was working.
To cut a long story short, and after seeing a new MAF for my car at £40 i decided what the hell, lets change it and see what happens.
To my surprise the emmisions light is now out, well for now. The car is more responsive and i have seen an immediate change in fuel economy, slight change but even so a change for the best.
When i looked at the old MAF i could see the metal strip sensor inside had corrosion on the face, seems this corrosion had the MAF sending wrong signals to the ECU.
All in all £40 well spent and simple to change over, even decided to change over the indicator stalk to one with cruise.
Just need someone with a Tech 2 to kindly turn on my cruise control for an agreed fee.
