facelift paper oil filter - cover removal

Just received November '09 Autobahnstormers mag.
Shows a tip for filter cover removal in Editorial on page 1, but it seems to me it still depends on getting a good grip on the cover itself, which seems to be the main problem.
Loo-Knee had to give up on mine recently as the socket started to break the end off the cover.
I still intend to adapt mine to the conventional canister type when i can get round to it.

I personally prefer the cannister type filter, seems to be far less troublesome. :)

I think it is another ecological move.

The used oil filters are chucked in a drum at the garage that is collected for disposal.

Elements can be centrifuged to get most of the oil out but cartridges have quite a lot of steel in them and are a bugger to recycle.

Don't know if they actually do centrifuge them though  :-/

Even if the head is trying to shear off, a simple strap made of webbing will hold on to the canister far longer than any type of heat seizure can induce when removing.


PS

Thinking about it, if the "nut" is shearing away from the body of the canister then it's time for a new one anyway.

Beleive me mate,they are a total nightmare on the facelift,as they are only aluminium cast and break really easy,especially if the idiot who done it last tightened it right up,as i found out and ended up buying a new one,£20 at vx. >:(
