ABS ECU
« on: 27 November 2009, 22:52:44 »

Hi,

I've got the t/c and abs lights showing intermittently on the car (2.5v6).

I suspect from reading on here its a result of the abs ecu. Anyway, I've wipped it out anyway and will be sending it off for a refurb.

But theres the question. Can a faulty abs ecu affect the power steering?

I'm saying this because with the warning lights on, the speedo stops working and I've noticed then that the steering feels heavier.

Glad to hear any thoughts on this.

Si

Yes ..  :)

Power steering is "weighted" and changes with speed, the ABS ECU is the "bit" that measures the speed and changes the weighting.

All those things happened when my ABS ECU failed   :(

Cheers Entwood.

At least thats put my mind at rest. I'm just crossing my fingers it is the abs unit thats faulty otherwise I'm gonna scream! What a pig of a job to get it off.

Anyone else used the guy on ebay doing the refurbs for £100 before I send it off and part with my hard earned cash?

I used a company called BBA Reman .. was very very pleased with them ... it was 2 1/2 years ago ... 5 day turn around £130 including courier return and a 2 year warranty

Don't know their present prices but must be worth a phone call ??

TBH I'm not a great ebay fan ... :(

I have also used BBA ,as they are very close to me.
They repaired mine within 48 hours which I delivered and collected ,at a cost of £110=00,but yours would need to be sent so probably extra £20=00 is about right.
When mine failed power steering was very strange ,but odd thing was when the faulty unit was removed ,steering actually felt really good,so the unit does have a major bearing on steering response.
My advise would be to use a company with a proven record like BBA ,as several members have used them with only good reports.

When abs ecu went on the Estate also noticed power steering not right.  Returned to normal when abs ecu replaced (2nd user one)

Yes, excellent company and from past experience, I would trust them more than BBA actualy.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.
