2.5TD was detuned for Vx, chipping it brings it back to full BMW spec, and considerable mpg & performance increase.

Convert it to a manual, then chip it. Or upgrade the autobox to the stronger AR35.

You can't chip it with the standard autobox fitted.

You can but you'll be lucky to make the end of your street without it self destructing ;D ;D

MPG = miles per gearbox?

(sorry Alf, couldn't resist. Hope you get your replacement box installed soon)

There is a maintenance guide for the manual conversion.
Look for an R28 box off a 3litre if you intend chipping the diseasle

Ooooops! I've been running chipped for nearly 20K on a standard auto box. I guess I should start looking for an AR35. How much should I pay?

Cheers

Perhaps you already have one fitted to get away with 20k, unless you drive very carefully?
I was led to believe that you'd be lucky to get 1000 miles before it went bang!

Mate of mine has a T reg 2.5 BMW engined estate which has been chipped. 90 MPH, 55 MPG instant consumption car loaded with 5 lads and a load of gear in the boot. No slouch, either!
If he ever wants to sell, I'm having it! :y

Not sure what chip, it was fitted three years ago by a guy in Derbyshire, ( near Chatsworth House). It transformed the performance, but the consumption did not improve by much, although the onboard computer figures claim an extra 10mpg or so, but they lie!

Is it possible I have an AR35 already fitted, I have had the car from 6 months old?

PS, I am not a boy racer, but ocsnly give it some.

My mate swears his readout is pretty accurate, so I wonder if your chip isn't what it's supposed to be?
My mates' chip is erm *cough - copied - cough* from a genuine BMW chip, therefore taking the ECU back to it's original spec.
GM detuned the ECU (by replacing the chip) as the BMW chip killed a lot of autoboxes.

Well, I remember this chip supplier was well reviewed by Omega owners at the time, and the performance is outstanding, the only problem, certainly from the lights, is getting the power onto the road, and requires circumspect use of the right foot.

I had always assumed that the chip was a BMW clone, and from what you guys say, that is probably the case.

Have looked at http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152912242, and the fact that it is still in one piece, it seems as though I may already an AR35. Any quick clues as to how to identify it? Mine was first reg. 11.03.99.

I keep trying new cars, but none, in my price range, drive anything like as well as the Mig. I just love driving it, even after 10 years.

Just tracked down the guy who did it, Jeremy Fearn, Beeley, Derbyshire.
