So I am scrapping it ('98 2.5 CD), tempted by the lure of the scrappage deal!!!

To be fair my hand was forced by the need for a new back box/massive water leaks/new tyres and a problem with the suspension... Oh and the rust!! and two weeks left on the MOT!

I know this is probably the wrong forum but I really wanted to thank everyone who has given me help and advice to keep her on the road these past 3 years.

I'll miss her and I'll miss the amazing support I got from you guys.

Many many thanks!!!  :D

Scrappage is so wrong

My tax money is being used to help people with more money than me buy Korean cars.

Anyway you should be able to match the discounts with no trade in

You know what - It isn't your tax money. I only figured when I bought the car.

Govt. scrappage allowance? £1k

VAT on 12K car? £1500

The smartest tax ever - most people who use it would never buy a used car so the govt. is cashing in... In actual effect, everyone wins; punter, dealer, car company and the government..

The dealer & government do ..... I'm not sure where the 'punter' wins  :-? as he's just paid top dollar for his 'cheap' car, that was cheaper before the scrappage scheme started, than what he's just paid for it!  :-/ :-/ :-/

Possibly... Although it depends on what you buy. I looked into not scrapping and negotiating - the most I could get off mine was £700 without scrappage (most of the dealer contribution. I think the people who do lose most are those who own cars that are 2-3 years old that they want to move on.

Think of how much you'll lose on depreciation on buying a new car,for what you'll lose in the first year on value you could buy a damn good Omega for that and you'll own it outright. :y
I've driven countless types of car but my current 2.5V6 Omega has to be by far the best, just wish I'd got the V6 first instead of the oilburner.
Get another Omega mate,it's the only way :y

Couldn't agree more. I run cheap cars and with the money I save, this lives in the garage:

They certainly did. Look back through my posts of the last month or so and see an interesting story about the first Omega B's

Yes so we as a country are £1000 out of pocket.....and where do you think that £1000 is going to come from medium term.

Its a shite scheme which is putting very serviceable cars to the crusher before there time which is far worse for the environment.

It was a genuine L plate (not a re-registered or private plate).

It had a few quirks but the astonishing thing is how little the cars changed in the 9 years between that one and the one I have just bought as a replacement.
