1997 maf sensor and 2001
« on: 08 December 2009, 01:00:16 »

Can i use the 1997 maf sensor on my 2001 v6 catera?

I have recent found my car running very bad sounded like a vacuum leak but after going through it very well and taking the plenum off and all i just cant see that being the problem.

However I did find that by removing the plug to the Maf sensor it runs better, I dont know if this proves that it is defective or not but i do have another one off a 1997, just want to make sure that it wont harm anything, the plugs look the same, and the sensor looks awefully similar too, just not exact.

Any thoughts?

different part no. i beleive. The face lift Mafs do not seem as reliable as pre face lift from what i've seen on here.

Hang on, what engine size as we talking about? Helps to fill in your profile details so we are all on the same page.

Well i found out that if you buy a maf sensor its like 175 bucks for a new one, however if you goto autozone and buy a maf for a 2005 l300 saturn its the exact same thing with same part numbers and from same manufacturer for 75$. Im just going to buy one of those and try it out instead of testing the other one out.

I believe the US models had different engine management systems anyway (X30XE had DBW) so what applies in the UK might not apply t'other side of the pond.

I would check the part numbers and connector style.

The key is to search against the Bosch part number  :y

plugged it in and reset my codes the car is running fine now. THANK GOD! and thank you guys for helping.
