1997 2.5TD AUTO PROBLEMS
« on: 18 December 2009, 15:11:23 »

HI I RECANTLY BOUGHT MY OMEGA AND LOVE THE CAR DEARLY BUT THE AUTO BOX SEEMS TO BE UNSURE OF HOW AND WHEN TO CHANGE GEAR,BUT THIS PROBLEM CAN STILL BE FELT UP TO 80MPH IN TOP GEAR,

IT SEEMS TO ME IF THE GEARBOX IS HOLDING THE ENGINE BACK,

SOMETIMES MISSING GEAR ALTOGETHER WHEN I SELECT DRIVE

IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR BRAKES SUDDENLY FOR A SPLIT SECOND

AND THE FEELING IS WORSE WHEN THE CAR IS UNDER LOAD LIKE CLIMBING A BIG HILL,,

IM HOPING ITS JUST A CASE OF NEEDING TO CHANGE THE GEAR OIL OR MAY BE THE AUTO MODULE,,

BUT ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED

...G.... ::)

1st things 1st ... caps lock is the third key up (middlerow) on the very left of the keyboard ... does not need to be set.

Typing in CAPITALS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING ... :)

Having sorted that you can start on the car .... 2 common problems are the fluid level and the selector.

Fluid level checks here :

There isn'y a "guide" to cleaning the selector .. but a forum search will find several threads discussing it.

This one is how to remove it ..

And ... Welcome to the forum ...  :y :y :y :y

HTH  :)

Entwood's right, most likely it's the ATF, check and top up or change it. Should do the trick  :y Mine had a problem very similar and after a top up was perfect, check for leaks as well. ATF gets quite hot in use and the mechanic that done mine said it was probably the first time it had ever been checked and had got low with 10 years use.
