I am quite a patient sort of bloke but am getting quite frustrated with access problems changing my left bank V6 ex manifold gasket in situ.

On the plus side the car is level (on on 4 wheels) and 40 cm up in the air so plenty of safe access underneath.

There is a fourth 8 mm bolt holding the top heat shield in place which I am currently working on, third one came off quite easily.

Now the Bastard bolt. I have figured out that it is 10 mm and goes in at slighty below horizontal. Question is what can you do to improve access? can the big cable from battery box tocam cover loom be shifted? Is it best to loosen the engine mount so you can lift the engine up about 1 inch?

Any  tips would be gratefully received!

The BBolt bolts the Dipstick, Engine Lift Bracket and Transfer Pipe.
Undo the Power Steering Reservoir bracket (one bolt a 10mm socket) moving the reservoir right out of the way. Can't remember moving anything else on none LPG cars

Yes it is E12 or careful use of a 10 mm ring spanner. Got it off now but can't get the water pipe union out!

Heat shields are off, cat off. Looks like it is four bolts hold the top of the manifold and three underneath.

I think I am about Omega'd out...........

 Thanks, hadn't thought of moving the PS reservoir. have lifted the engine up an inch by loosening the engine mount and jacking up carefully.

You need to move the engine over too I'm afraid, actually easier to remove the head in my opinion

I haven't got a block and tackle or tripod or suitable strong beam. Have to agree taking it out would be easier.

How do you "move the engine over"? Is that undo or remove both engine mounts and support on a trolley jack etc and move it over?

While were on the sublect of manifold gasket changes,what will it be like to change on mine,as i dont fancy taking the engine out or anything. :-/

You don't have to take the engine out, just move it over.

I just think it easier to remove the bloody heads

GRR any suggestions for the latter gratefully received! I have tried string around the BB bolt bracket and twisting using mole grips.

Mark MV6 I might write a guide on how to do it without removing the engine. It will start remove engine!

That will be very useful varche to a good many on here i should imagine.

You should know i suppose daz,but ive only ever done a four pot,never a v6,and that was a bit of a barstool,with studs snapping off etc.
