Exhaust Question (3 litre Estate, 1999)
« on: 04 January 2010, 12:46:57 »

Hi all,

I noticed a bit more exhaust noise than usual the other day while parked on the drive, so looked underneath and one of the pipes from a central silencer is quite badly corroded and holed just before it goes in to the back box. Looks like the other one is also not going to last much longer, both the actual silencers are both in good condition (as is the back box). Is this a common place for the systems to go, and do I just accept I'll have to replace the two central silencers eventually? I have fixed it temporarily, but wonder whether I could fabricate a better solution using some other method - seems a shame to replace quite a lot of good system for a fairly minor fault - any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated!

I looked around for my 3.0 as mine was the same, but I just bought a replacment as it wasnt worth messing with. Try EternalCar, it was really cheap and really good quality. Delivery is not bad either!!  :y

Same place mine went, around the joints to the back box, it would be more work to try and do a good fix than replace the whole system, pretty annoying I know

Yup, same place mine went. Like lace work. But the guy who I'd bought it from had got it through an MOT like it :o I got a complete cats back system from Eternal car delivered for £105 ( a couple of years ago mind). It took longer to unwrap all the bubble wrap than to fit it :) Been fine ever since, I can thoroughly recommend.

they tend to fail where pipes enter boxes, and also on the centre to back joins.

As they rot inside out, its likely the entire system is on its last legs.  Current price from Eternalcar is around £132 delivered - both centres, rear, and fitting kits

With the amount of links/business being put Eternalcar’s way, could be have a direct link/advert on the forum.  Just thinking of the money the forum is currently generating for Ebay.   ;)
