Track Car
« on: 17 December 2007, 15:35:11 »

Timbuk and I have been discussing doing a track car and as Timbuk has an Estate which he is stripping we considered using this, but would a saloon be better. We will be totally stripping the car right back and trailering it to the track. So which is best to use?

I think a saloon would probably be better from a handling point of view but having said that Volvo did used to race an estate in the BTC. ;)

Looking through the hand book a manual saloon is 65kg lighter than a manual estate :o

In fact, I misquoted him, but there's some sound advice here:

    * Simplicate, then add lightness.

    * You won't catch me driving a race car that I have built.

    * Make the suspension adjustable and they will adjust it wrong -- look what they can do to a Weber carburetor in just a few moments of stupidity with a screwdriver.

    * To add speed, add lightness.

    * Any car which holds together for more than a race is too heavy.

    * Accountants are the scorers of industry; they have nothing to do with playing the game.

    * Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere.

Estates can be fun on the track, especially when you pass sports cars.  :P

Unfortunately, it will be a little slower.  On FWD like a T5 it helps to improve the weight balance, but you don't need that on a miggy.  Of course what really matters is if you can drive or not.  You can have fun on a track with almost anything, most people spend far too much time worrying about the car instead of their driving.

It will store the stuff you take to the track though, like track wheels with slicks on.  :y

I saw a Senny he converted, looked nut the nuts, engine was sportspot less sounded great fully stripped out, the works  ;D

Drop him a PM for some sound advice  :y
