SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING SOMETIMES.
« on: 17 January 2010, 21:32:16 »

A problem has appeared on my car. When I took my car out during the recent snow I braked hard and the Traction control light,ABS light came on and the speedometer stopped working. I pulled over and turned off the ignition and restarted the engine everything was working ok. Sometimes the lights will come on and go off afther A few seconds. Sometimes the speedometer will keep working and another time it will stop. I believe it is connected to the sensors at the rear. Could I be lucky and there is A loose conection or some damp has got in. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Symptons of failing ABS ecu. Either get unit refurbished (about £120) or contact one of the breakers in "parts" section. Ideally needs to come off same spec car i.e. engine size, manual/auto, year (if poss)

I recognize those symptoms too well ..

bba-reman repaired mine for me  £130 2 years ago so might be a tad more now ...

Worth giving them a ring on 01634 687222 ... is an awful lot less than a new one ... you DON'T want to consider that !!

Thank you for the advice. I have had A look around the net and have found the ecu's from £40 for A 2ndhand unit to about £100 to refurbished one. Is it an easy job to change the unit. I had A look to see the part number of mine but I cannot see very much has it is hidden behind pipes and cables.

Part Nº on bottom of ecu (really helpful of Vx  :( )

If going 2nd hand route you need to source one from exactly same spec model as yours and approx same year - otherwise requires Tech2 session.

Its a pain of a job to do because of limited space - search on here, many including myself have done them - requires patience..

HTH & good luck  :y
