Air Con question
« on: 16 January 2010, 12:47:05 »

I understand the ac cuts out below 5 degrees or so ... car was steaming up badly earlier on despite ac on and set at 22 degrees on AUTO and NOT on re-cycle .....admitedly it was raining hard and temp was between 1-3 degrees ...it has had a new carbon/pollen filter a month ago .... i just dont remember it steaming up so much even when temp was down to -16 a week or so ago .... skuttle is clear as are the rear vents , carpets are dry as well .... am i missing the point of ac ? ... i thought it would still function and de-humidify any incoming air to stop steam up .... it was the same on ECO... :-/

yes i remember your previos post, did the new polen filter improve things?

seem to remember having to hit the demist button once ir twice on mine in the cold spell even when well warm in the cabin.

Wondering if the ac is working, has it been re gassed to your knowledge?

New pollen filter did make a big difference  :y ....I did have it checked and re-gassed by Kwik Fit  :-[ 3 or 4 months ago .... give them there due it was fine afterwards ( and i got it cheap as i knew one of them ) ..... is there a way to check its working if outside temp is about +3 ??  PS the fan in front of the radiator isnt coming on either like it used to when ac turned on or is that just because its low temperature today  :-/

Sounds daft, but you could always warm the temp sender up with a hairdryer or hot towel.

Sure the sensor is on the bottom lip of the bumper, easily reached from underneath.

Well i have not had much success with the warm towel thing ... i'll try again tomorrow in the light ..... is there anyone who has a similar temp outside try and see if at least the fan in front of the radiator as you stand from the front of the car runs when ECO turned off ( currently 2.5 degrees here ) .... im hoping thats normal when the temp goes below the cut off point of 5 degrees according to the manual .... im hoping this isnt going to be another expensive problem  :'(

If memory serves whenever you select ECO the fans all stop, unless the engine temp is that high that it needs cooling !

Select Auto, fans start .. :)

When i press Eco to turn AC on ... ( IE ECO NOT DISPLAYED ) normally the fan would start .... but now it doesnt start .... i dont know if its because its below the 5 degrees cut off stated in the manual
Car was steaming up but i thought i would still be able to use ac despite low outside temperature to dry the incoming air to stop the windows steaming up .... or am i not understanding how the ac works  :-[ ..... i hope im explaining this properly  :-/
