I need a bit of an andvice.
Got an oil leak on the cam gasket.
The cam gasket is new, actually it is the third one in the last year (breathers are clean) so I guess the only problem is the incompetent garage.
The leak is at the edge of the halfmoon.
I just need to know one thing
Can I put a small amount of gasket sealant directly on that edge from the outside?
Will it do any harm?
I really don't want to change another gasket right now because this time will do it myself but still got no tools or parts.

putting a bit on the outside wont do any harm but i doute it will do any good ether

my guess is that garage dident put it on
the selaint you use is the black stuff from vx

when i got my current elite it had a full history from vx and a recite for the cam gasket been done at vx

it leaked when i pulled it off vx had put sealent in wrougn place and none where it should be

its posible covers are warped two

that said you may as well do it your self if you want it done right

it really not that hard at all justy a bit more of a pain than most like everything else on the v6

as for where the sealent gos a beed on half moon bit
and a few blobs where the corners are

if you look in the mantanace guide on hear its well explained with pics

id never done one before but was a pice of piss really
took me about 6hours but would have probly took about 3
if we aint been drinking so much coffe and pissing about lol

only tricky bit was the inlet manfold bolts what held us up

as guide recomends useing a magnetic bit
only problem was my bolts were not magnetic lol

but found an answer with a bic pen
remove insides of pen
oe and hollow tube will do

loop a pice of wire trow tube

losen bolts drop loop over bolt and get m8 to hold and pull loop tight trow tube now undo bolts and m8 has bolt on end of you new tool

refit em the same other that that your drop 60% of em some of em down the inlet if you are unlucky

 if there like mine and you cant use a magnetic bit

but that realy way the only hard bit
the rest is pice of cake to do

ps no real specile tools needed

few spaners and a socket set will do and
and screw drivers and mole grips for hose clamps

only thing you will need is the right size torox bit for it
crap on top and cam cover bolts

is the half moon gasket loose? warped covers is a myth on V6, unheard of on 4 pots.

Bit of black sealant around the back of the half moon will be fine

I used bluetack on the torx socket, worked fine.

8-60Nm wrench is about £60, worth while investment, did'nt Elite Pete send you some parts before? I have Halfrods trade, so could get the wrench and post it on?

I am cr@p at working on cars but i found the 2.2 cam cover a doddle, nice and easy to work on, no leads in the way, plenty of space. Did mine about 18 months ago, and 20 odd k, still not a single spot of oil showing.

You know you want to buy the torque wrench and sockets, and do it yourself

You know you want to buy the torque wrench and sockets, and do it yourself 

I thought youd be good at it.
