Tyre Pressure Query

Can anyone tell me the correct tyre pressures are for my Mig.

Its a 3.0 MV6 Estate running on 235/45/Z/R17 Dunlop Sports. Im being told that Im not running them with enough pressure in them. I currently have 32 in the front and 34 in the back.  :-/

There telling me they need more as its tearing the outside edge off the front passenger side tyre and theres hardly any wear on the middle. Tracking was done not long ago but its chewing the tyre.

they are talking shite, either camber or toe is out, or miles out by the sound of it. You need full geometric set up which sounds like a million miles from the service your getting, pay them no money and go directy to wheels in motion or similar.

low tyre pressure will wear BOTH side of the tyre and leave the middle. If you're getting scrubbed tyres on the outside, then that suggests that the tracking is not correct. You need someone who knows what they're doing on a four wheel alignment. Have checked it over again, and I think we have found the knocking on the drivers side front to be the suspension shocker top bearing. So gonna replace this then go and get a full set up done at a different dealer  :y

Don't use a Vx dealer, waste of time.  On my previous Omega I had the local dealer (this was pre-OOF days for me!) do their 4-wheel alignment thing a few times and swap tyres around for no avail.  Still made for the kerb every time I let go of the steering wheel!

Only ever got sorted with a new set of tyres, full geometry check and new wishbones at WIM...

^ true - steering geometry settings will not allow a tyre with edge wear correct itself, new tyres will have to be fitted at the same time the tracking is done.  :)

if the front tyres are wearing on the outside the tracking is toeing in too much, if the wear is on the inside edges the tracking is toeing out too much.  If I remember correctly 1/16th to  1/8th inch toe-in was acceptable, but must be adjusted with new tyres fitted, and ideally new steering joints will help achieve a good adjustment... 


as for tyre pressures, too low pressure will affect the tyres by wear on the outside edges, put strain on the steering joints and waste petrol,   too high pressure will wear the tyre in the middle and put undue strain on the springs and shock absorbers, as well as affecting handling!

Why would you need new tyres to do toe in surely this is done on the rims

yes, but adjusting the toe in will not have any benefit on tyres that are already worn on the edges, they will continue to wear that way until new tyres are fitted. :)

Hi, Just had a look in my owners manual,
up to 3 people, 30 front 33 rear,
full load, 39 front 45 rear.

Yours sound ok to me.  :y
