Camshaft/Crankshaft Locks and Timing Gauge
« on: 08 February 2010, 13:46:03 »

I am hoping I am putting this in the right place.I am a newbie to Omegas V6 engines but not to engines in general, I have bought the DVD from OOF to be able to do the cam belts myself.
I have an oil leak from the Cam cover which as you all know what that entails so I thought that while I got the Plenum off, (follow me here) doing the cam gasket,I may as well change the plugs, then I change the alternator belt (needs this doing cracked all over) while i am doing that I'll change the cam belt and tensioner and don't forget the water pump, why not go the whole hog and change the Heater Bypass Valve, saves stripping down at a later time, all this done now one time is better than having to do it several times for each job and doing it from a wheelchair i only want to do it the once. right to the point.
I am asking members if anyone can lend me the special tools from the DVD so I can do the job right the first time ,IE, cam locks, crank lock and the timing gauge. I have only had the car a short while and believe that prevention is better than cure and I can not cope with a breakdown it's hard for me to get about with only the one leg so my Miggy is my only way.
Is there anyone who would lend me the tools being a newbie with not that many posts.
Thanks for reading this even if you can't help.. Cheers Tony. :-? :y

the kits are worth quite a bit, hence the post limit. If your willing to travel, MarkDTMCalib in Nottingham has one  :y

Forgive me if I've misread the post, but are you able to actually do the work yourself?

o eye I can do the work, some i can do sitting in my chair and the rest i do standing on one leg, when that gets tired i sit have a pot of tea and start again. I can do most of the things an able bodied person can do except tie two shoe laces. I have maintained all my cars i dont let a silly thing like only having one leg stop me ,it's my passion, when i can't look after my car myself then it's time to give it all up, besides i get the gaffer  to do the fetching and carrying for me, i like a challenge, sometimes i can enlist the help of my lad he's big and strong and so long as i let him have a drive of my miggy now and again he's up for it. all i am short of now is the cam/crank/timing kit . :y

Wakefield is where Autovaux is. They used to rent them for reasonable money - I assume still do.  Worth a call?

One on ebay here - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/cam-belt-lock-kit-for-vauxhall-gm-saab_W0QQitemZ300393716822QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item45f0dc5c56

That looks like the Sealey kit (also under oother names) which is apparently a good make. I bought one off ebay last year for about 50 notes.
So this is looking well cheap at the moment.
