Jerking when accelerating?? any ideas??
« on: 08 February 2010, 21:49:24 »

Thanks for looking guys - basically when accelerating i'm getting a lot of jerking and the revs are fluctuating quite dramatically causing the car to jump back and forwards.
It generally happens between 2000 and 3000 rpm and the revs drop and rise roughly 500 rpm when it starts.
Usually happens under 'moderate' acceleration and it stops if I ease off the pedal, or put my foot down a bit.
If i'm real gentle on the pedal it tends not to happen but obviously this is not always practical!
Any help would be much appreciated - cheers

Could be the crank sensor; mine gave similar symptoms (although not a 'jumpy') when it was failing. Check for code 19, using a paperclip or similar, instructions for which can be found in the 'Maintenance Guides' section.

To do: Replace brake discs and pads; adjust already replaced shoes; check for leaks in oil cooler, cambelt area, crank seals, sump, dipstick; replace osf door; replace a tyre; clean, MOT.

Is it 'drive by wire' or an ordinary cable?  :-?

Also check the maf sensor as I found out on mine at about 2000 rpm it stuttered a lot especially when going up hill.I unplugged it first and it did make a noticeable difference.Replaced it with one from my other car and heypresto result.I hope that helps. :y

Plain and simple any chance you have run it really low on fuel recently? It could be a fact that there is then dirt in the fuel system that has been pulled out the bottom of the tank. If so try a bottle of wynns or reddex fuel cleaner next time you fill up, and see if that fixes it

Hmmm.....as a general rule, jerking will be a miss fire.

So inspect your setup, if it was an air leak you would expect idle to be affected but, under the conditions you describe, you need max voltage at the plugs to ignite the fuel mix.

So I would be inspecting the plug leads etc and checking for oil/water in the plug wells.

Well....EGR needs attending to to start with.....so take it off, clean it realy well (oven cleaner) and when re-fitting blank it off with a piece of metal to rule it out.
