So does around 15mpg sound right for one of these around town then?

No, you should be getting at least low 20's.
My 2.2 which they say on here should return about the same as the V6 engines gives me around 22mpg on short journeys which I do at the moment.
Longer motorway runs around 34-36mpg :y

Something isnt right, i get 24 around town and low 30s on a run in my 3.0.

Would check the easy stuff - air filter, tyre pressures first, if you can take a plug out it would be easy to tell if its running rich as it will be black and sooty.

You sure no one is nicking your petrol?  :D

MPG is also dependant on your right foot  ::) if you hammer it 15mpg is certainly possible.  I get an avarage of 32mpg with a mix of town, B roads and M way but I dont hammer it off the lights or loads of over taking.

Urban driving in a 2.6 V6 = 17.2mpg. Thats manufacturers figures with a perfectly tuned warm engine, perfect spark plugs etc, maybe even a premium octane fuel. So take a more used vehicle, cold starts, more traffic about and longer waits at light etc and 15mpg wouldnt be unusual. These engines seem to slurp petrol when accelerating so unless your driving at a steady speed for regular stretches or going downhill your mpg will suffer.

I could get 36 to the gallon out of my old 3.0...

Do you not touch the pedal on the right then?  :o  ;D

Not with the cruise set at 70 on a run...   :)   MutantCav has her now, and this Golf doesn't do much better...

i used to get 80 miles out of £20 when i had my 3L auto, that was i mixture of half and half motorway and town, the trip comp display was broke so i could never know what i was doing exactly but i think it worked out at around 20 mpg, that was really the only reason i got rid of it and bought a 2.2 dti.

Sounds just as shocked as I was when I first purchased mine. I used to get around that, but have since found you have to have a right foot as light as a feather. I gave up in the end as some people claim 36mpg others 25mpg. I do mostly driving around town. Car speed average is 25mph. I get around 19 mpg at the moment.

Car runs fine. Even replaced things that did not need replacing. ( Some old codes that were still present on the old computer.) >:(

You'll just have to get used to driving it with softer slippers on. Put £20 in her and its only done around 30 miles before the fuel light pops back on  :y

I do love the car but it will have to go sooner or later as they do like a drink  ;D

Does it feel like it is running at full power?

Mine has had cat issues which stuff the economy and makes the power feel less.

Any cat rattles, rich fuel smell out of tail-pipe, variations in power delivery?

I was getting 30+mpg out of my 2.2, but we think the secondhand replacement cat is failing again and we are down to 25odd mpg.

Just a thought  :y

I had no idea these where so un fuel effecient engines they are way worse than bmws and mercs with even bigger engines :question how can vauxhall not make these better :question as i said before i had an e46 M3 and got more mpg than this and that was driving it sporty. AH well i still like it though just dunno how long I can afford to keep it now.

The engine is actually pretty fuel efficient, closed loop lambda control ensures this, and it produces a decent amount of power for its size.

The "problem" - if one actually exists - is that the car weighs between 1500 Kg and 2000 Kg depending if you use page 223 or 224 !!

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/andrew.reynolds983/Manuals/Omega2002Manual.pdf

You start throwing that weight  around with the grunt and acceleration the Omega has .. and it uses fuel ... period.

The "upside" is you are sat in a luxury barge with a tremendous amount of safety protection around you .. :)

Mines a manual I get 26mpg around town that being a dive into London down M1 and around the A406 to Hanger Lane in the morning rush.  Those that know this route know what it's like  >:( :'( at the best of times.

As you say you are driving steady 15mpg that you're getting is low in my opinion  something isn't right.  Check the air filter, all air/fuel/water sensors and make sure the plug wells aren't full of oil this causes shorting and increased fuel consumption also check your brakes aren't binding.
