pretty nasty oil leak

Hi all

When i went to get my oil and filter changed the other day the garage pointed out to me ive got a bad oil leak, its coming down from one side of the head gasket area on my 3.0 V6, am i right in thinking its a cam cover issue?

When James V6 CDX came and did my cam belt he noted at the time there was a bit of a leak and there was oil in some of the plug holes, i didnt do the job at the time and its one of those things ive just forgotten about :( The breathers werent blocked in the slightest, so im guessing its just an age thing as its done 90k now and is 10 years old.

Ive had to put in 1 litre of oil in 10k miles so its not too dramatic but its probably best to get them done now eh? Or any other suggestions?

Do em sooner rather than later ... IMHO ... :(

Reasons are simple .. cost .... the oil filling the plug wells will cause problems with the HT leads eventually, leading to misfires, this then causes problems with the DIS pack ...  :(

So a small oil leak can lead to replacing not just the gaskets .. but HT leads (£100 ??) and DIS pack (£80 ??) as well as .. perhaps .. a recovery charge after breaking down ... :(

Not worth the risk IMHO .. for the sake of a days work and some gaskets ...

visually check the cam covers yourself, if they are leaking, replace, using genuine GM gaskets  :y

bought my gaskets as a kit from auto-vaux.
  from some motor factors they dont have the o-rings in them so ASK if the o-rings are included, dont forget tube of silcone.

i got a set for mine from auto vaux they look the same and were a great fit to the cam covers but leaked as soon as you mate them to the engine so had to get a set from vauxhall the texture of the rubber is alot harder so id send them back to auto vaux before you open them and save yourself £15 and a few hours work mate

Cam cover gaskets should only ever be replaced with genuine GM brand and from the dealers.More posts on forum about this than any other subject...you use anything else at your peril.
