MOT Failure
« on: 12 February 2010, 14:00:08 »

My Miggy just failed the MOT :(

Handbrake adjustment, was gonna do this myself but we've not really had the weather to get under the car to do it My arthritis would have complained too much.

Offside Front Suspension Arm Excessive play (wishbone?)

Nearside front brake binding

they quoted me £80 inc P&L for the wishbone and £55 plus parts for the brakes and handbrake.

I know the wishbone will be a pattern part as I don't have the money for a genuine one even though I know it's false economy.

does this seem a reasonable price?

That's not too disatrous.

On the face of it the prices are not bad but it comes down to what quality parts they use and whether they do the job properly.

Given the weather and your arhritis I would be inclined to accept (unless one of the mechanics on here is close enough to you..) but check that he will do the handbrake properly (check the guide on here) and torque the wishbone up with the car on the ground.

NB you should really do the wishbone in pairs and will need a geometry esp camber set up afterwards.

How much cheaper? ;) bear in mind that you're west Brum? so would have to figure in fuel etc

the thing that is worrying me is the binding brake what would this most likely be? bad disc, stuck piston, pads?
