Breather Question - Missing Part
« on: 14 February 2010, 21:58:47 »

Ok, Ive had a lovely day stripping/cleaning and refitting my breathers/cam covers. Its the first time Ive done my breathers and have a question for all that know more than me.

When I had the breather housing off I noticed that one side of the housing had what appeared to be a broken piece of plastic pot riveted to the casing.  It appears that it was supposed to be there but only one part of it was. What is this piece of plastic for and will it make a big difference not being there.

Also whilst I had it all stripped down I found the reason for my EGR valve blowing all the time. Im now on my third egr and am quite pleased to have found a blockage within the plenum. I decided to clean all the breather tubes and as I blew carb cleaner into the hole it sprayed straight back in my face  ::) I evenually cleared the blockage using carb cleaner and a piece of washing line. It was one of the tubes from the egr fixing it the front of the plenum  :y so it was worth the four tins of carb cleaner and 6 hours labour  ;D :D :y

If it is the part I'm thinking of I believe it started life as a soft rubber non return flap.

Ummm oh dear, I take it then I am going to have to get a new breather housing with flap included.

Will it cause much harm if not replaced??
