3.0 alternator swap.
« on: 18 February 2010, 00:56:05 »

Probably elementary to many of you i know but the alternater has gone on Tracey's MV6 est. MM has supplied a replacement FOC but is busy on a course. I can see it, see how to unbolt & disconnect it but does the battery need to be disconnected & does anything else need to be removed to get the thing out & the new one in as there does'nt seem to be enough room.
If it was an old Ford i'd have done it in minutes!!!!
A step by step infant guide in laymans terms would be much appreciated, Cheers, Guy. :-/

I've not done one on an Omega but...

Disconnect battery, disconnect wiring on rear of Alternator, remove Aux Belt, unbolt and remove alternator.

Fitting is the reverse.....

I believe the access is better from below :-/ :-/

Cheers Paul. MM got back & we're hot to trot on Sat morning. Seems you remove the bottom pipes from the multi rams, disconnect the battery & jiggle the alternator upwards. We know which tools to take, have codes for the bose & Steve has a lesser version diagnostic thingy than the tech 2..it takes keys for different cars... but has already proved it's worth.
Any other tips would be appreciated. Response to this post has been slow. I know MM is'nt in everyone's good books but i sold Tracey the car so want it to serve her well. Guy.

found it alot easier to remove multirams, remove undertray & working from under the car, remove the 2 bolts on alternator, tip it  so pulley is facing downwards & you can get to the terminals & unbolt wiring. Top bolt was a bit of a pain so some extension bars on socket wrench made it a bit easier. When you refit new one connect the terminals up then (don't put too much strain on the wires) then fit alternator, its not a difficult job, just a bit fiddley
