the most obvious culprit would be the indicator stalk, i believe all T,D`s have the cruise already enabled in the ecu so cant see it being that, if you replace the indicator stalk it must come from a T,D as they are different.

Yep, cheapest to check first and the most common fault is the stalk.
Cruise control stopped working on my previous '94 Elite, but that must have been an ECU issue as I'm now using the stalk on my current Mig with no issues.

Whip the stalk out and measure accross the 2 pins for resistance with a DVM or Multi Meter.

Should get something like this with a working one.

Stalk disconnected-

Normal (No Cruise), 670 Ohm
Cruise On / Speed Increase, 67 Ohm
Resume (Press and Hold)/ Speed Decrease, 162 Ohm
Reset / Stop, 1.6K Ohm

This sounds like good info BUT my stalk has 4 wires in the plug so which two pins also to make life more difficult the socket on the car has only 2 wires, any ideas please.

Right hang on, lets go back a bit, we are talking 2.5TD here, as per your thread title correct?, are you saying its packed up working or are adding a criuse stalk?

The criuse stalk on a 2.5TD only uses 2 wires (which is seperate from the other connections), or, are you by any chance trying to add a Petrol Model stalk which has 4 wires (from memory) and is not going to work on a TD?

Thanks chaps.I didn't mention in THIS topic that I have just bought this car.
The cruise has never worked and from your comments it would appear that some dickhead has fitted the wrong stalk before I bought it.
I will now buy a stalk with TWO wires and then I hope all will be OK.
Thanks.

That should cure it :y

At trade, around £32 + VAT from dealer last time I got one, though things have gone up slightly.

Be aware - dont think its mentioned in the manual - on a TD, the reduce speed function is not implemented. So the R button has a single function (Resume)
