Heater matrix removal - where to cut
« on: 21 February 2010, 21:44:57 »

Hi

Question for "Baron von Drunk-a-lot" and "iainb"....and anyone else who's cut away part of the facia to replace their heater matrix.

When cutting in the area which normally houses the relays/diagnostic plug etc, I can see that effectively I need to cut straight down, pretty much from the corner of the apeture, do I cut to the left of the left-hand fuse cover hinge, thereby leaving it intact and somehow bending it out of the way, or do I cut that off too and repair it afterwards?

I can't quite see on iainb photo's whether he worked around it.

Thanks,

J

I did make a cut to the fuse panel, I'm not sure if the picture shows it clearly enough, but you can see my string pulling part of it up and out of the way.

Others haven't mentioned doing this, so maybe there's a way to dis-assemble the fuse panel and avoid the cut, I dunno.
If you want any more/better piccies of any of this, just ask. I can pop out and take some after work tomorrow.

Good luck with it,

Pete

Nice one Pete - that was exactly the "missing" picture I was looking for, I can see the l/h hinge bracket in place, so clearly I cut to it's left and leave it intact.

Arrowed instructions are a help too!

I was just congratulating myself today for peeling the vinyl back neatly when it suddenly ripped right up the middle - damn! Still, if it works in the end I don't care too much what it looks like.

Did you buy a dealer replacement matrix in the end, or go for a cheaper import?
