engine temp

Hi all,

I have noticed that my car only manages to reach about 80 degrees in the morning when i get to work, i work 10 miles away from my house.

Does this sound right, as i thought its normal operating temp is about 90 degrees.

car is a facelift 2.5 v6 by the way

normal temp as seen on the dash is 85, rising to 90 in traffic, but on a constant cruise should be 85.

Does it manage to get to 85 temp wise on longer runs?

ive only ever seen it rise to 85-90 in a traffic jam

yup sounds ok, could be getting a little old and slightly sticky. Brand new stat in our 3.0 V6, and that sits at 85 all the time now.

Sounds like the stat getting tired.  My temp gauge barely lifted about 70 but now it has been changed it casually rises to 85 in short order and sits there.

I mentioned this in an earlier post but got  no reaction the fact that we have the heating on in the car at  this time of year doesnt thisbring the engine temp down I find that if I switch the heating off my temp runs at 80-85

If the cooling system and stat are working as intended, switching heating on or off should make no difference :)

If the system is struggling to cool, for whatever reason, having the heating on can help.  Eg, if I'm blasting down the motorway in the summer at, err 70mph officer, and suddenly hit a jam, I open windows, turn heating up, just to get that big dollop of heat out of the engine quickly :)
