Code P1555 Help please..............
« on: 27 February 2010, 16:53:43 »

Have had my car into Vauxhall this week and was advised that i needed a new exhaust before they could diagnose the problem fully. My car runs very lumpy with erratic idling and the revs going all over the place. Have now placed a new exhaust on my car.

The erratic idling and general rough, lumpy acceleration is cured when i remove the plug from the air flow meter but returns as soon as i plug it back in. Could anyone tell me why this is and what the the fault might be with my car as i have very little faith in my local dealership.  :-/

Did Vx tell you this? What a bunch of idiots  >:(

The sensor you are unplugging is your MAF sensor, which would have been the original fault.

Do you have a K&N Panel or cone filter fitted?

Yes Vauxhall in St Albans told me this on Friday and wanted to charge me £470 for the exhaust......... had one put on this morning for half that.

Have a standard Vx air filter, new only a few months ago.

The same dealership have told me that it is likely to be my Throttle body and have Quoted me £600+ to do this......  :-/

I'd stop going to that dealer, you can get exhaust cat back from Eternal for £130 delivered.

P1555  - Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Load Signal not Plausible with Engine Load

MAF sensors can cause other codes to be thrown up, do you have any other codes?

might be worth a drive to TheBoy who is in Brackley on the Oxon/Bucks/Northants border, he has tech2 and knows how to use it unlike Vx dealers.

I am also just down the road from him, can try swapping MAF sensors see if that cures your problem  :y

P0170   Lean Exhaust

Codes listed here:

Since engine runs fine with MAF unplugged that points to your problem, and not the throttle body and £600 bill.  :y

Hi Mate.  I had exactly the same problem as you, and I was given the run around something rotten.  I cleaned the throttle body, the housing and cleaned the breather pipes, and my car was as good as new.  Ive got a 2.2 the same as you.  If you read my posts you will find I had exactly the same problem as you, and after having the codes read, was able to cure the proble at a grand cost of £9 which included Carb/Air intake cleaner and a couple of gaskets.  Hope this helps :y :y

Yeah that's not going to be any good, the breathers need a good clean straight away. Check the guides section, its an easy job.

Hi Michael,  Its a doddle to fix. Give the breathers a dam good clean with the Carb Cleaner, and in the daylight, follow the guide on here for cleaning the throttle body.  You will notice the difference instantly.  Improved oooooooooph and much better mpg
