Bloomin' rattle
« on: 08 March 2010, 19:08:12 »

Lo again guys.

I've posted once before about a rattle I just cant trace on my 2.2 auto.

on a cold start the engine sounds fine. As it begins to warm up a rattle develops and gets louder as running temp is reached. It speeds up with engine speed until about 1800 rpm then goes. It appears to be coming from the driver's side of the engine bay or thereabouts.

Totally unrelated to this I've had the head off and the ex manifold studs all renewed and the timing belt, pullys , tensioner and water pump all been renewed.

Pretty sure its not lifters as not there cold but gets worse as it warms.

I suppose I need to call in a professional but just in case: has anyone had anything like this before, poss exhaust heat shield, transmission noise, loose silencer baffle etc? Could low auto transmission fluid do this? Perhaps throttle body or related kit? Car all runs sweet by the way.  :-/ Any pointers appreciated. Sorry for the long post.  :-[

Hi Mate, I've just done my H/G and within a couple of days I had a noise similar to yours, it was one half of the exhaust heat shield/baffle situated just below the passenger side front footwell. HTH :y

Thanks to both you guys.  :y

I'm hoping its something like this, perhaps vibrating in sympathy with engine speed until at higher revs it smooths out.

I'm gonna book in to get tranny fluid checked hopefully in a day or two so while its on the ramp I'll have a look around.

Does anyone know, by the way what sort of fluid the 2.2 autobox takes?

Cheers again.  ;)
