the emissions on my 2.0 16v are
fast idle test
co         =0.53  fail
hc          =20     pass
lambda  =1.050   fail

second fast idle test
co          =0.57 fail
hc           =1     pass
lambda    =1.049   fail

natural idle test
co       =0.36      pass   

would you say the cat is dead or the lambda sensor

imho I would be suspicious about ignition and maf first..

edit: and air leaks..

"If the lambda sensor continually reads high (rich), it will cause the engine computer to lean out the fuel mixture in an attempt to compensate for the rich reading. This can cause lean misfire, hesitation, stumbling, poor idle and high hydrocarbon emissions (from misfiring).

If the lambda sensor continually reads low (lean), it will cause the engine computer to enrich the fuel mixture. Injector pulse width will increase causing fuel consumption and carbon monoxide emissions to go up"

First things first....time for the basics.

Is the engine well serviced and the breathers, throttle body etc all nice and clean

serviced engine when i first got it in september
oil and filter changed in december
new plugs oil filters in march
air pipe from maf to throttle body was split replaced with good one from rob last week
throttle body breathers icv were all cleaned out last week
swapped maf with one off other car it is known to be good
