Another exhaust question
« on: 13 March 2010, 21:04:50 »

One way or another I need a new cat back exhaust for my 2.6 V6.

When i replaced the exhaust on my prevous 2.5 V6 I fitted a genuine VX exhaust and was very pleased with it (despite paying list price because I didn't have a trade card then >:()

Has anyone bought a genuine VX exhaust recently? Does the reported drop in quality apply to all VX models or only those that are no longer in production???

Has anyone managed to buy an exhaust from eternalcar for a 2.6/3.2? because I can't find it on their website.

It looks to me as if the 2.6 exhaust is totally different to the 2.5 because the 2.6 has pre-cats and a deeper bumper :-/

Don't bother with VX anymore, they don't produce the original systems, just crap single walled one's now. But they're still the same price as the double walled one's, so it's not worth it at all. Eternalcar is the way to go, they don't officially do one's for the 2.6 or 3.2, only 2.5 and 3.0, but they do fit the later 2.6/3.2 vehicles. However, the only issue is that the tail pipes are shorter, either you can live with this, or if you wanted, add chrome tail pipes.

^^ as above really, GM quality went down the toilet few years ago, no longer doubled walled, no better than cheapo pattern.

You might want to put an exhaust trim on it though as Josh mentioned they are a tad short.

Also go else ware for fitting kits, as the ones they supply are rubbish

by a fitting kit i guess you mean clamps and hangers?  any decent motor factor will have the kits. Hangers should be ok unless they are split.

Yeah the clamps are cheap, and they did not provide enough bolts for TB's V6!  :o Re-use the old hangers....

OK. I understand that the quality is not as good as it used to be but is it any worse than a 'good' pattern system? and can I have it for Wednesday?

These are the trade club prices for a genuine system. I think I may end up buying from VX because I need it now & I haven't got the time to research buying from the Internet.

certainly not worse than a decent pattern, not heard any complaints on Eternal delivery, but then again don't know how long it took.  :-/

Hi
I doubt that your local Vx dealer will have it in stock, it would be best to check that they can get delivery by Wednesday.  Why not try your local exhaust specialists if time is of the essence.  Personally I'd wait the small extra time and purchase from Eternal or Neuparts and save close on £100, but each to their own.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Any cheap stainless steel systems out there? Don't really need them at the moment but seem to remember exhausts can be costly!

I fitted a stainless steel system to a series 3 Land Rover I had years ago. It lasted about 4 years and rusted through at the welds.

I also had a stainless system on my Range Rover but I took it off because it sounded tinny.

Despite advice on here I have just bought a genuine GM exhaust system (left & right silencers and a tailpipe). Arrived at dealers 48 hours after I ordered it.

The quality looks very similar to the last GM system I bought many years ago except that the back box doesn't have any clamps attached to it.

Going to fit it this morning, wish me luck, being Cornwall the rain is persisting down :(

PS does anyone need any photos for the maintenace guides while I'm under the beast?

well if you have the original clam shell design on the car might be usefull to add a comparison shot of old and new side by side to any new or existing guide ? although i did post some pics on here a while ago.

i have the latest style gm exhaust and was most "unpleased" when it arived and even less pleased when comparing it to the old one that came (fell) off.

But i needed the car so on it went.

i think its probably better quality than the eternal, but personally i would rather have saved the £160 differance on the tc price.

Best of luck drilling the bolts, i found the bolt will come undone before its fully drilled, doesnt need to go all the way through. hth
