ram solinoid question
« on: 24 March 2010, 18:29:48 »

STILL having problems with both solinoids on the ram system on my v6  :'(

before i get my test light out, are the solinoids positive or negative applied  :-/

in other words, does the ecu give it  12 volts to switch it OR does it apply a negative to switch it ??

definetly NOT the vacume pipes

cheers  steve

ever since i put that engine in from  >:( :-X :-X
the rams have never worked  :'(
i had a few vacume problems ( cr*p brake pedel , hbv not working, ect so i replaced the vacume pipe from the plenum to the brake pipe ( with a nice fat piece of rubber servo  pipe ) and also the non return valve complete with all the nipples so i could bin all the tee pieces   :'(

brake pedel and everything else on the vacume side now works great  :y
but still, no mater what i do to the solinoids, the rams won't play  :y

i have directly applied vacume to the rams and they work fine  :y
i am going to replace both solidoids in morning but to be honest, i just can;t see both failing at the same time  :-/

if that don't work then i can only see it either being the loom ( which came with "said engine" or the ecu  :-/  but i had a look at the wiring diagram and it looks like the 12 volt feed that feeds the solinoid also feeds the egr valve and other sh*t  :-/

if you hear a big bag and lots of smoke coming from the east of york then youknow i've lost it and TORCHED IT  >:( >:(

as for the fly wheel ............... pm sent  :-[

be sure the vacuum pipes that go to the black plastic vacuum reservoir box are connected the correct way round as the box incorporates a one way valve. Looking down on the box I think the r/hand one is for the supply pipe from the back of the engine and l/hand supplies the 2 solenoid valves on the dual ram system, just thought it could be your problem.

Used the output from the vacume tank to directly trigger the rams so that's plumbed in ok

cheers anyway
