Gasp for Air !!
« on: 25 March 2010, 21:09:13 »

Sitting in traffic tonight with engine on tickover in gear ,suddenly engine seemed to almost miss a heart beat and revs  gulped and then corrected its self and back to normal.
It did this several times but always correct its self and never stalled.
Is this pointing to a air leak ? but why just a sudden gasp, normal idle with climate on is 650 ish so that is normal.
Any pointers other than the usual culprits/ dispack new 4 months ago/plugs replaced 6k ago/leads less than 30k and are 8mm magnacor/fuel filter, air filter less than 3k.

Did your EML light up?

Have you done the paperclip test?

if EGR is blocked (I blocked mine) it can do that after engine warms..(mine does it)

tried without blocking EGR , problem goes..

in normal driving you cant feel as the throttle is open..

but when you are at the lights and engine is warm and EGR is activated it does that :-/

Could be crank sensor starting to fail?  :-/

Worth checking for a 19.

time for a paper clip test, see maintenance section.

Sounds more like its almost stalling, so not air leak although revs may well rise and settle as the engine management trys to prevent the stall.

If no 19 is present may be worth cleaning the idle controle valve.
