Pulling to the left and feathering of tyre
« on: 30 March 2010, 18:35:49 »

Hello all,

Had the Omega mot'd today. Asked mechanic to check for play in steering tie bars etc as when had tracking done tyrecentre said there was play and they couldn't track it. The car is pulling slightly to the left and feathering the inside edge of the drivers tyre.

Mechanic who did the MOT said there was very little play at all-in fact car passed only having to have brake pipes replaced-an advisory last year.

Any ideas-I think I'll take it to another garage to have it tracked.

Sounds like it needs tracking, there will be some "flex" from the rubber bushings at either end of the control arms.

Sounds like they just didn't want to do the job.  :(

All too familiar when you arrive with an Omega!  :(

i think you will find it could be more than just a standard tracking..camber adjustment plays a large part with the omegas and you would benefit more by having the full set up adjusted :)

"As above", I spent over £150 during 8 months with local 'tyre' garages to sort out a steering problem,
one trip to Tony at WIM and all things sorted.
Worth a phone call and the trip.

check car for steering and suspension faults
take car to wheels in motion for full geometric set up(castor camber and toe on the front toe on the rear)
then fit new tyres, odly worn tyres will still pull until replaced.

NOTE, toe(tracking) is far less of an issue with tyre ware than camber on this car. Hence full geometric set up is required.

I went to WIM this time last week for the full alignment treatment (£65 to OOOF members). Smashing blokes that know their stuff. Very happy for me to observe their work and get under the car whilst up on the lift to see what was going on and to explain what they were doing as they went. Their laser alignment kit is state of the art. Tony tells me he is very familiar with the Omega's history of uneven tyre wear and has developed his own bespoke programme for alignment which he thinks is far superior to the sandard set up. Seems to be working very well on my estate which was well out apparently according to the printout I was given showing before and after set up angles.Worth a visit to my mind, if it saves you one tyre you're in font straight away.
