morning everyone, after months of having to pull the gaiter cover up and push the yellow lever forward to get it out of park, I replaced the brake light switch today and it made no difference at all.

I'm now thinking the solenoid itself is at fault, so with that in mind what are the part numbers and how do I go about removal/refitting? as ever, the haynes book of lies is useful

Can you hear the solenoid click if you press the brake pedal in "P" with ignition on?

Do the brake lights work?

Sounds like the solenoid then. 
It's amazing how we're all still here before the the Nany State/litigation solenoids were fitted

Dont rule out the small switch that detects the shifter is in P

would a tech 2 be able to detect the peoblem or is it more fault code orientated? I'm thinking get it connected up (anyone near london with one?) and see exactly whats going one

It's not something that a Tech 2 could help with, as far as I can recall. Just a straightforward interlock circuit that doesn't involve any ECUs.

hmmmm, thanks for that. went to my local dealer earlier and without knowing exactly what part has died I could spend like £100+ on a part that maybe right, if it isn't then I can't take it back
