Condensor for A/c
« on: 31 March 2010, 14:41:22 »

........have a fairly hefty leak on the A/c (gets regassed and 3 days later is blowing warm air). :( :(

Going to see my local Cool Car man after Easter (as recommended on this very forum!)

He's going to give it a thorough going over and see if he can locate the leak.
He said that once he's found the leak he'll know whether or not he can repair but his guess is that as it's a Vauxhall, it'll be the condensor :'( :'(
So...........just to be overly cautious and before I post in the parts wanted section and/or start looking on eBay/breakers etc etc,  is getting a used condensor a false economy? (even Cool Car prices are frightening! :o :o)

Thoughts on a post card please.............

yes the condensers can fail but so can many others items. The leak in mine was just a bad seal between two pipes so I should wait till your "cool" guy has had a look first

Were I you I would wait until an expert has diagnosed it properly.
I had mine looked at by someone who trades as an A/C specialist and got told that the condenser was leaking and so was changed by him. He had put a dye into the system and then ran it for over an hour on tickover to help him find the leak. When I took it back because it did not last long he looked at it again and then said it was the front seal on the compressor that was leaking. Too much of a coincidence because I had, by that time, bought myself an ultra violet high intensity lamp and searched for the leak myself. If the condenser had been leaking the leak would have ran down onto the chassis and been visible there, or at least on my drive where I always park in the same place. The only thing that was on the chassis crossmember was road dirt! Cost me 260 quid for the condenser that there was nothing wrong with because I foolishly trusted a self proclaimed 'expert'.
Don't do as I did please.........................

as has been said so called experts arnt that good,i would find someone who other peeps recomend in your lokal area the common issues on omegas is the seals were the condenser pipes join together (just below battery tray) two seals. and the quick release,s in the engine bay seals again. but the commonist fault is conndensers fail due to old age.
