Y22XE automatic / Limp home
« on: 03 April 2010, 20:40:56 »

I have a problem with Y22XE engine with automatic transmission.
Randomly, when i start the warm engine, it needs a long starting (few seconds) before the engine starts. When this happens, the engine fault light (the car image with wrench, not the engine image) is lit with the "sprocket" light in the information display.
No problems with cold start, runs nice.

RPMs are limited in ~4500 revolutions. The automatic transmission works, but the car feels "slow"

I've had some past experience with Opel Ecotec engines and if memory serves, this is common with camshaft sensor problems. (RPM limit ~4500)

I found instructions how to change the sensor and how to read fault codes. Unfortunately, the pedal trick did not work.
I have placed an order from ebay for tech2 usb reader and hope it will tell me more, but is there anything else you gurus might recommend for checking?  ;)

From your description that is classic cam sensor problem, i had exactly same on my 2.2. I'd wait until you get your reader from eBay to be sure, but 99% sure thats a cam sensor fault (quite common on 2.2)

I've not found a 2.2 thats worked on pedal trick yet  :(

I agree it sounds like cam sensor - the difficulty starting, the gearbox error, the EML and the 4500rpm rev limit.

Use a genuine part, the cheap ebay ones and other pattern ones seem problematic
