Misfire/Hesitation at 4000 rpm
« on: 14 April 2010, 10:00:12 »

Took my car back to MOT station this morning for retest and on the way there was a misfire/hesitation at 4000 rpm.

Idles and runs fine up to 4000 but then its as if it wants to cut out.

Any thoughts much appreciated :y

Any fault codes?

Is the fuel filter nice and new or old, manky and blocked?

Was the cemblet timing all set up correctly?

Its still at the MOT station at the minute so can't check for fault codes. Fuel filter could probably do with a change. Cambelt timing all set up correctly as far as I know (though I did it myself following the DVD so could be completely wrong) :D :D

Got the car back and checked codes. It showed 46 which is SAI (still can't work out what is causing that) and 19. Cleared codes and ran the car again and only 46 came back.

Stuck with this now.  :-/ :-/

Worth checking that the crank sensor plug/connector is firmly in place.

My guess is that (as heat damage to the crank sensor cable has been cited as a cause of crank sensor failure) moving cables around to get the head gaskets changed has accelerated the demise of the cable.

thats not fair ;D

anyway you will get your tenner.. check your pm

by the way hesitation over 3500-4000 rpm is %90 cam sensor (I double check it) :y

Yes, camsensor will kick in limp home mode and apply a 4K rev limit, so will knock sensors (more common to see these damaged).

Never yet seen a V6 cam sensor actualy fail but, have seen them damaged due to incompitence

So are we saying its crank sensor or cam sensor. I;ve always thought that 19 was crank sensor but Cem's description sounds exactly like my symptoms. :-/
